
Independence Cup Prize Money Increased to Record Rs 3.5 Million
The Mauritius Turf Club has announced a significant increase in prize money for the Independence Cup, raising the total purse to a record Rs 3.5 million for the 2024 edition of the prestigious race.
The Grade 1 contest, run over 2000m at Champ de Mars on Independence Day, has attracted renewed international interest following the prize money boost. Several South African and Reunion-based trainers have already expressed interest in targeting the race.
MTC CEO David Rousset stated: "The Independence Cup is our flagship event, and this investment reflects our commitment to elevating Mauritius racing on the international stage. We expect a field of exceptional quality."
The race has historically attracted the best stayers in the region, with past winners including Grade 1 performers from multiple countries.
