New Jockey Club Regulations Announced for 2024 Season
The Mauritius Turf Club has announced comprehensive new regulations that will come into effect for the 2024 racing season, with a primary focus on enhancing safety standards for both horses and jockeys.
Key changes include mandatory use of body protectors for all jockeys, new whip regulations limiting use to five strikes per race, and enhanced veterinary screening protocols. All horses must now undergo pre-race health checks 24 hours before competing.
MTC Chairman Robert Pilot explained: "These regulations align us with international standards and prioritize the welfare of our equine athletes and human participants. Safety must always be our paramount concern."
The new equipment standards will be phased in over six months, with the club providing financial assistance to jockeys for purchasing approved safety gear.
